Carole E. Jones

Carole E. Jones, 60, of Pine Crest Hill died Wednesday at home after a long illness. Born in Danville, Va., on Nov. 1, 1945, daughter of Dean and Anne Shelton Frantz, she graduated from Reading (Pa.) High School high school and attended Albright College in Reading and Simon's Rock College of Bard in Great Barrington. She moved to the Berkshires in 1965. Mrs. Jones was innkeeper at the Egremont Inn for 15 years, retiring in early November. She also was employed by Evergreen Contemporary American Crafts in Great Barrington for 25 years. Before that, she worked at WSBS in Great Barrington from the early 1990s until 2000; for HospiceCare in the Berkshires for six years during the late 1980s; Tanglewool in Lenox, and at Barrington Outfitters, the former Berkshire Courier, the former August Moon Restaurant and the former Fitness Express, all in Great Barrington. She enjoyed the arts. Her husband, Alan Bernstein, died in June 1979. Besides her parents, of Reading, she leaves two daughters, Alana Beattie of Durango, Colo., and Robin Kilduff of New Britain, Conn.; two sons, Thomas Bernstein of South Egremont and Joshua Jones of Great Barrington; a sister, Janet Seeley of Seattle, and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Carole Jones, who died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, will be tomorrow from 10 to noon at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She also leaves two sons-in-law, Todd Beattie and Michael Kilduff; her son Josh's girlfriend, Maegan Warner, and eight grandchildren, Jack, Harrison, Samantha, Anthony, Heather, Michelle, Tom and Parker.

I remember Carole as a beautiful young woman in Reading, Pennsylvania. Carole had the most beautiful voice, her speciality being "Greensleeves." Many a happy hour I spent in her company, last seeing her in 1968, Great Barrington, shortly after Robin's birth. I hear her singing, whenever I recall her...
