Stanley J. "Stash" Sumy

Stanley J. "Stash" Sumy, 77, of 92 Howland Ave. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Pittsfield on June 10, 1928, son of Anthony and Josephine Juras Sumy, he was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mr. Sumy was last employed as a real estate manager for Michael Chen Realty, San Jose, Calif. He retired in 1990, after 25 years of property management. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. He and his wife, the former Yolanda M. Gaetani, were married July 7, 1947, at Mount Carmel Church. She died Oct. 11, 1997. He leaves two sons, Anthony Sumy of Adams and Stanley Sumy Jr. of Dublin, Ireland; three daughters, Joanne Ybarra of Adams, Christine "Ma" Colvin of Pittsfield and Carol Saldo of Stamford, Vt.; two brothers, John Sumaj of Adams and Anthony Sumy Jr. of Pittsfield; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Stanley "Stash" Sumy, who died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, entered the gate of Heaven and was greeted by his loving wife, Yolanda, and his parents and his brother, Frank. His wife had been waiting patiently for him for the past eight years. The funeral will be tomorrow at 8:15 at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at Holy Family Church, celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Medical Center Renal Dialysis Unit, in care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. He was predeceased by his wife, Yolanda, son-in-law, Larry M. Ybarra, great-grandchild, Keller Eugene Shaw, and a brother, Francis Sumy.
