Lola Belle Johnson

Lola Belle Johnson, 82, formerly of Haley Road, died Tuesday at Berkshire Place in Pittsfield, where she had resided for about two years. Born in Seguin, Texas, on Sept. 23, 1923, daughter of Dr. Charles L. Wisseman and Helen Ranzau Wisseman, she attended schools there and graduated in 1941 from Highland Park High School in Dallas. She attended Southern Methodist University for three years. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker. She lived on Highland Drive in Great Barrington from 1966 to 1972 before returning to Dallas. She returned to Great Barrington in 1993. She was a member of First Congregational Church and the Thursday Morning Club, and volunteered several hours each week at Fairview Hospital. While in Dallas, she was a member of the Highland Park Methodist Church board and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Red Cross. She enjoyed playing bridge. She and her husband, William O. Johnson, were married in Oceanside, Calif., on Jan. 26, 1945. He died in April 1978. She leaves three sons, W. Charles Johnson of Brea, Calif., J. Randy Johnson of Pittsfield and Edwin L. Johnson of Kerrville, Texas; a daughter, Lisa Johnson of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; four grandchildren, and a step-grandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Lola Belle Johnson, who died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, will be conducted Saturday at 11 at First Congregational Church by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor. A reception will follow the service at the church. Her cremains will be interred alongside her husband in Dallas, Texas. Lola Belle was active in church life and was a tireless volunteer throughout her adult life.
