Anthony Joseph Guerino

Anthony Joseph Guerino, 66, of 25 Maple St. died Tuesday afternoon at the North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on Oct. 10, 1939, son of the late John P. Guerino and Philomena Pisano Guerino, he attended schools in North Adams, graduating from Drury High School in 1958. Mr. Guerino was a Army veteran, serving from Oct. 16, 1958, until his honorable discharge with the rank of Spc. 4 on Feb. 8, 1962. He worked at Sterling Pest Control in Boulder City, Nev., for 11 years, until retiring in 2000. Before that, he had worked as a security guard at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield and at Kelly's Package Store in Dalton. He had been a firefighter for the city of Pittsfield for three years, until his retirement in 1976. Prior to that, he was a firefighter for the city of North Adams for 10 years until transferring to Pittsfield. He lived in Boulder City, Nev., from 1987 until 2004, when he returned to North Adams. He leaves his wife, the former Lorraine M. Ropelewski, whom he married on Nov. 22, 1962, in Pittsfield. He also leaves two daughters, Melissa Guerino Shea of Adams and Kristy A. Guerino of Pittsfield; a son, Michael P. Guerino of Genoa, Neb.; two brothers, John A. Guerino of North Adams and Vincent J. Guerino of Bennington, Vt., and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Anthony Guerino, who died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, will be held tomorrow, Jan. 13, 2006, at 4 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, with the Rev. William Havens officiating. Calling hours will follow the service at the funeral home until 7. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an animal shelter of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. He leaves nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Guerino, who died May 8, 1992.
