William George Shephard Sr.

William George Shephard Sr., 61, of 8 Glen St. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born Nov. 10, 1944, in Adams, son of the late Emery and Phyllis Rougeau Shephard, he attended schools in Adams and North Adams, graduating from Drury High School. Mr. Shephard first worked at the former Lev Hardware and then worked at Greenberg & Sons Hardware, Atlas Maintenance Corp., the Hardware Shop, Greylock Electric and finally Aldo's Paint and Wallpaper, until poor health forced him to retire in 1993. He was a communicant of The Parish of Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas. He was a member of the Adams Turners and served with the Massachusetts National Guard, Company M, 2nd Battalion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He leaves his wife, the former Louis A. Devio, whom he married on Nov. 7, 1964, in Notre Dame Church, North Adams; a son, William G. Shephard Jr., of Jacksonville, N.C.; two daughters, Cynthia Shephard of Altha, Fla., and Lisa Fortin of Readsboro, Vt.; three brothers, Emery "Skip" Shephard and James Shephard, both of North Adams, and Edward Shephard of Daytona, Fla.; two sisters, Phyllis Hall of Daytona, Fla., and Frances Lehman of Fitchburg; his stepmother, Jennie Shephard of Portsmouth, N.H.; seven grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for William G. Shephard, who died Jan. 12, 2006, will be held Saturday at 11 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon at St. Thomas' Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic parishes of Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association through the funeral home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, MA 01220. He leaves daughter-in law Dawn Shephard; son-in-law Leonard "Flip" Fortin, brother-in-law Norman and John Devio; sister-in-law Mary Malloy; two aunts, Edith Goodermote of North Adams and Joan Dubis of Adams; seven grandchildren, Rachel and Emily Shephard, Katelyn and Kelly Ballard, and Walker, Rosemary and Lilly Fortin, and Cynthia's companion, Michael Ballard of Altha, Fla.
