Dorothy Myrtle Briggs

Dorothy Myrtle Briggs, 93, of 72B Monroe Road died yesterday afternoon at Williamstown Commons. Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 19, 1912, daughter of Edward H. and Catherine Meehan Knight, she attended schools there. Mrs. Briggs was employed for many years by the Whitcomb Summit Restaurant and Motel. She also worked at the former Zayre's Department Store in North Adams. She attended Florida Baptist Church and was a member of its Ladies' Club. She and her husband, Wesley Herbert Briggs Sr., were married in 1929. He died in April 1972. She leaves two daughters, Sharon Martin of North Adams and Beverly Edmundson of San Angelo, Texas; four sons, Ronald Briggs and Carl Briggs of Florida, Bruce Briggs of Roseburg, Ore., and Wesley H. Briggs Jr. of Savoy; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Cheryl Kinney, died in 1984, and Evelyn, Dorothy, Robert and Richard Briggs, died as young children. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Dorothy Myrtle Knight Briggs, who died Jan. 16, 2006, will be conducted Thursday evening at 7 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPEL, by the Rev. Roy C. Burdick, pastor of Florida Baptist Church. Burial will be in the spring in Church Cemetery in Florida. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4 to 7. Memorial donations may be made to the Florida Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. She leaves a son-in-law, Charles Edmundson; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Briggs; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Kim and Paul Helms, Lisa and Charles Privette, Billie Jo Kinney, Robert Edmundson, Sheryl and Bruce Saunders, Karen and Paul Stavaski, Heather and Ryan Levesque and Harold Martin Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Edmundson, Kristina Saunders, Zavier Martin-Levesque, Zowie Martin-Levesque, Tatitina Martin and William Ross. A sister, Evelyn, also is deceased.
