Susan Dunning Grillon

Susan Dunning Grillon, 60, a 25-year resident of 1046 Washington Mountain Road, died Thursday morning at her home. Born in Middletown, N.Y., on Aug. 31, 1945, daughter of Georgine Cross Dunning and the late Charles Henry Dunning Sr., she attended schools in Middletown and was a 1963 graduate of The Emma Willard School in Troy, N.Y. She was a 1965 graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. In l97l, she received her bachelor of arts degree from Emerson College in Boston, and in l988, she received a master's degree in psychological counseling from Antioch College in Keene, N.H. After various acting, modeling, and teaching positions, Mrs. Grillon became a licensed social worker for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services for 25 years. Her work with families and children included protective service casework, foster care, and she was a MAPP (Massachusetts Approach to Partnerships in Parenting) trainer for prospective foster parents. She retired in October 2003. Mrs. Grillon enjoyed reading, the outdoors, walking, and spending time on her land. Besides her mother of Belleair, Fla., she leaves her husband, Richard J. Grillon, whom she married Oct. 5, 1984, in St. Andrew's Chapel in Washington; a son, Benjamin Dunning Grillon of Washington; two stepdaughters, Happi Grillon of Philadelphia, Pa., and Joy Grillon of Portland, Maine; two brothers, William Cross Dunning of Belleair and Charles Henry Dunning Jr. of New York City, and a sister, Georgine Dunning Baxter of Belleair. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours for Susan Dunning Grillon, who died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, from 2 to 5 p.m. at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Chapel in Washington, where Mr. and Mrs. Grillon were married, at a date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Grillon may be made for the preservation of the Old Town Hall Cemetery on Washington Mountain Road, Washington, in care of the funeral home.
