Dennis E. Whalen, 57, of 1 Jerusalem Road died yesterday at home. Born in Saco, Maine, on Sept. 28, 1948, son of Joseph P. Whalen and the late Marion Hines Whalen, he was educated in Lee schools, graduating from Lee High School in 1966. After high school, he enlisted in the Army. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1969. Mr. Whalen moved back to the area, where he worked for various building contractors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and following Lee High School sports. Besides his father, with whom he resided, he leaves a brother, Kenneth C. Whalen of Manchester, N.H. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Dennis E. Whalen, who died Jan. 23, 2006, will be conducted Thursday morning at 10 at Tyringham Union Church by the Rev. Janet McKinstry, interim pastor. Burial will follow in Tyringham Cemetery. Visiting hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at Kelly Funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. He was predeceased by his sister, Janice "Sis" Curtin of Tyringham.
