Martha Blanchard

Martha Blanchard, 89, of 23 Gilead St. died Thursday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on Sept. 1, 1916, daughter of Fritz and Elfreida Kleiner Koch, she was 1933 graduate of the former Adams High School and salutatorian of her class. Mrs. Blanchard was employed Pfizer Inc. for 25 years in the payroll department, retiring in 1981. Earlier, she worked at Adams Co-Operative Bank, Reeves and Stojda Insurance and the former First National Bank of Adams. She was a member of Franklin Chapter 92 Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed arts and crafts. Her husband, Harvey G. Blanchard, whom she married May 17, 1939, died Jan. 20, 1960. She leaves a son, Harvey A. "Butch" Blanchard of Adams; a sister, Clare Therrien of Bradenton, Fla.; four grandsons; six great-grandchildren, and two step-grandsons. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Martha Blanchard, who died Jan. 26, 2006, will be Monday, Jan. 30, at noon from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by the Burial Office at 1 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Adams. The Rev. Edward King, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, North Adams, will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association through the funeral home. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Darlene Blanchard of Adams; four grandsons, Richard Blanchard, currently serving in Iraq with the Massachusetts Army National Guard, and his wife, Donna, of Adams; Steven Blanchard and his wife, Heather; Scott Blanchard, and William Blanchard and his wife, Laura, all of Adams; six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Dustin, Megan, Jacob, Zebulun and Seth Blanchard; two step-grandsons, Richard M. Kleiner of Adams and Stephen G. Kleiner of Washington, D.C., and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Brian Blanchard, and by two brothers, Fritz and Alfred Koch.
