Paul A. Klein

Paul A. Klein, 90, of Goodrich Street died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center after a brief illness. A native and lifelong resident of Stockbridge, he was born on Dec. 18, 1915, in Stockbridge, the son of Paul A. and Fannie Kinsella Klein. He was a 1934 graduate of the former Williams High School and received his diploma from Berkshire Business College in 1937; a bachelor of science degree from North Adams State Teachers College in 1949, and later earned his master's degree in English from the University of Massachusetts in 1951. From 1941 to 1946, he served in the Army and was a Technical Sergeant with the 63rd Quartermasters Corp during the Normandy invasion. His unit was awarded the Silver Star for meritorious service. He finished his tour of duty as a member of the Judge Advocate General's staff in Paris and was honorably discharged in 1946. Mr. Klein taught English for five years at Roecliff Jansen Central School in Hillsdale, N.Y. In 1956, he joined the English department of the Dalton School System, where he was also a golf coach. While at Dalton High School, he was the initial organizer of the Berkshire County High School Golf League. He retired from teaching in 1975. An active member of the community, he served on the School Building Committee, was an elected member of the Stockbridge Plain School Committee and the Monument Mountain Regional High School Committee. He was a former member of Cranwell Golf Club in Lenox and the Stockbridge Golf Club. He leaves four nephews and three nieces. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for the late Paul A. Klein will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Stockbridge. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Stockbridge. The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Paul is survived by four nephews and three nieces. He was predeceased by his sisters, Frances Finnerty and Helen Marie McKenna, and his brothers, A. Owen Klein, Sr. and Phillip A. Klein.
