Regina Sitkus

Regina Sitkus, 88, of Westerhook Road died Sunday evening at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home in Great Barrington. Born on June 5, 1917, in Great Barrington, she was the daughter of Josef and Eleonora Kernozek Baldyga. She graduated from the former Williams High School in Stockbridge in 1936. Following graduation, she attended Bay Path Junior College in Longmeadow. On Feb. 17, 1947, in Hartford, Conn., she married Vincent S. Sitkus, who died Dec. 6, 2003. Mrs. Sitkus worked as a secretary for the state of Connecticut for more than 16 years, retiring in 1978. In 1979, she and her husband moved from Manchester, Conn., to their home in South Egremont. They attended All Saints' Church in Housatonic and, more recently, St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington. She was an avid Red Sox fan. She also enjoyed working in her garden, cooking and spending time with her family. She leaves a son, Paul Sitkus of Nashua, N.H.; a daughter, Michelle Ardini of Needham; five grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Regina Sitkus will be held on Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at 11 o'clock at St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington, with Father Shaun O'Connor, MIC, celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Bridget's Cemetery in Housatonic. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, from 4 until 6 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She also leaves her five grandchildren, Andrew, Gregory and Justin Ardini, Mary Anne McCormick and Melanie Sitkus, along with her great-granddaughter Kaylee McCormick. She was predeceased by her husband and her two brothers, Stanley and Chet Boldyga, and her sister, Bessie Curtiss. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association through the funeral home.
