John R. Grubbs

John R. Grubbs, 89, a longtime resident of Monterey, died Sunday morning at his home on Cronk Road. Born on Aug. 22, 1916, in Addyston, Ohio, son of John and Mary E. Johnson Grubbs, he attended local schools and was a 1934 graduate of Taylor High School in North Bend, Ohio. Mr. Grubbs served in the U.S. Army during was a World War II. He moved to Monterey in 1944 and was an associate of the late famous playwright and author, Hugh Wheeler. John worked for Mr. Wheeler until he passed away in 1987. Mr. Grubbs enjoyed world traveling, especially going to St. Kitts, cooking and gardening. He also loved music and dance. He is survived by his sister, Beluah Dickerson of Cincinnati, Ohio. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A service celebrating the life of John R. Grubbs, who died Feb. 26, 2006, will be held Wednesday, March 1, at 11 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. There will be no calling hours. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and caregivers, and was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters. Donations in his memory may be made to either HospiceCare in the Berkshires or the Macedonia Baptist Church in Great Barrington through Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
