David W. Shewczyk

David W. Shewczyk, 20, of 1 Cedar Drive, Latham, N.Y., died Sunday in a snowmobile accident. He was a former resident of Adams. Born in Troy, N.Y., on Feb. 2, 1986, son of John "Jack" Shewczyk and Laurie Boudreau Shewczyk Haas, he attended Adams-Cheshire Regional schools, including Adams Memorial Middle, and was a 2004 graduate of Shaker High School in Latham. He also graduated recently from Modern Welding School in Schenectady, N.Y., where he achieved high honors. He enjoyed snowmobiling and riding dirt bikes. Besides his father, of Latham, and his mother, of Adams, he leaves two brothers, Andrew Shewczyk of Latham and Lance Cpl. Joseph Shewczyk of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; a sister, Jennifer Shewczyk of Latham; his stepfather, Norman Haas of Adams; two stepsisters, Nicole Haas of North Adams and Stacey Sprague of Peru; his paternal grandparents, Alexander and Dorothy Shewczyk of Maplewood, N.Y., and his maternal grandfather, Edward Boudreau of Waterford, N.Y. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for David W. Shewczyk will be Thursday at 9:45 from MARRA FUNERAL HOME, corner of Remsen and Columbia streets, Cohoes, N.Y., and at 10:30 from St. Basil's Russian Orthodox Church in Maplewood, N.Y., with the Rev. Peter Olsen officiating. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 8. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Holly Shewczyk; a stepbrother-in-law, Matthew Sprague; a step-niece, Keeley Lynn Sprague; cousins Kristy Rentz and her daughter, Kamryn, Drew Rentz of Latham, N.Y., and Michael and Jaimee Melvin of Mechanicville, N.Y., and aunts, uncles and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Josephine Cerri Boudreau. He was looking forward to a promising career in welding and fabrication. A kind and generous young man, he wouldn't hesitate to lend a hand to anyone in need. He will be immensely missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
