John J. Wisnewski

John J. Wisnewski, 85, formerly of Greenfield, died Sunday at Franklin Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the father of Barbara A. Mallet of Cheshire. Born in Greenfield on March 27, 1920, son of Joseph and Mary Necpan Wisnewski, he graduated from Greenfield High School in 1939. A World War II Army veteran, he served in the Asia-Pacific theater, attaining the rank of technical sergeant. Mr. Wisnewski was employed by the former General Tap and Die Co. in Greenfield for many years, retiring in 1982. He was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church in Greenfield, where he was an usher and eucharistic minister. He was a member and past president of the White Eagles Society, past commander and chaplain of John F. Harrington VFW Post 417 of Greenfield and a member of the Tadeusz Kosciusko Society. His wife, the former Catherine A. Rozak, died Oct. 7, 1994. Besides his daughter, he leaves two daughters, Jane L. Samiagio of Milford and Nancy J. DiGiacomo of South Windsor, Conn.; three sisters, Evelyn Smith of Milford, Conn., Sophie Cade of Manchester, N.H., and Ann Rozak of Greenfield, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for John J. Wisnewski will be Thursday at 9:15 from KOSTANSKI FUNERAL HOME, 220 Federal St., Greenfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Our Lady of Peace Church in Turners Falls celebrated by the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit, pastor. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. She also leaves sons-in-law Robert Samiagio, Justin DiGiacomo and Robert Mallet; four grandchildren, Melissa and Karen Samiagio, and Christie and Eric Mallet, and several nieces and nephews.
