Irene W. Lihou

Irene W. Lihou, 87, formerly a resident of New Marlborough, died Monday at the Cape Regency A. Radius Healthcare Facility in Hyannis. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., on Dec. 3, 1918, the daughter of Henry and Hazel I. Emerson Klein, she graduated from Gorton High School, and studied for a year as an art major there following graduation. She was a 20-year resident of the village of Mill River from 1947 to 1966, and then she moved to Centerville. She worked as a cook and secretary at New Marlborough Central School, and was a secretary at the Barnstable Vocational School. She also did secretarial work for her family at Clifford Lihou & Son Cabinet Makers in Centerville until recently. Mrs. Lihou was a member of United Church of New Marlborough in Southfield for many years. She had a love of nature, especially gardening and birds. She married Clifford Lihou Sr. in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., on Aug. 24, 1946. He died Feb. 25, 1984. She leaves her son, Clifford Lihou Jr. of Centerville; her daughter, Jane Rossingnol of West Barnstable; her brother, Henry Klein of Mill River, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The family of Irene W. Klein Lihou, who died Monday, March 6, 2006, will receive friends on Friday, March 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington. There will be a graveside service in the springtime in Stoney Brook Cemetery. Those who desire may make memorial contributions in Mrs. Lihou's memory to either the All Cape Parrot Rescue or the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home.
