Charles E. Blanchette

Charles E. Blanchette, 91, of 164 Prokop Ave., Ludlow, formerly of Adams, died Saturday at home. Born in Adams on April 30, 1914, son of Hilaire and Eugenie LaBelle Blanchette, he graduated from the former Adams High School in 1933. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater. Mr. Blanchette was employed by South Adams Savings Bank for several years, retiring in 1979. Before that, he worked for Williams College in the building and grounds department and for the former Wall Streeter Shoe Co. in North Adams. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas and a member of the Adams Lodge of Elks and Adams American Legion Post 160. His first wife, the former Rosalie Sobczyk, died Oct. 30, 1986. He leaves his wife, the former Orella Rondeau Hartwig, whom he married May 16, 1990. Besides his wife, he leaves two stepsons, Ronald Hartwig of Berkshire, N.Y., and Dr. Robert Hartwig of Charlton; two stepdaughters, Joan Pszeniczny of Ludlow and Mary Lou Massery of Pittsfield; 18 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Charles E. Blanchette will be celebrated Tuesday at Notre Dame Church in Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours at TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME will be Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas through the funeral home, 6 Summer St., Adams, MA 01220, or to the Baystate Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, P.O. Box 9058, Springfield, MA 01102. He leaves two stepdaughters-in-law, Catherine Hartwig and Rachel Hartwig; two stepsons-in-law, Matthew Pszeniczny and Philip Massery, and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Alice Dworkin and Germaine Blanchette, and three brothers, Rene, Edward and Hilaire Blanchette, predeceased him. He died at his home in the care and comfort of his family.
