Donald S. Evans, 88, of 24 Silver St. died Tuesday at home after a long illness. Born in Great Barrington, son of D. Wooster and Kathleen Smith Evans, he was raised by his stepmother, Mildred Evans, after the death of his mother. He graduated from the former Searles High School and from Ryan School of Aeronautics in San Diego. A World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps, he taught B-29 engineering to pilots. Mr. Evans was employed as a glass cutter until retiring in 1982. Before that, he worked as an auxiliary trooper with the Connecticut State Police. He enjoyed traveling, making model planes and wood carving. He leaves his wife, the former Elsie Morandi, to whom he was married 36 years. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Donald S. Evans, who died March 14, 2006, will be private. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery in Great Barrington. Memorial contributions may be directed to HospiceCare in The Berkshires, 369 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Besides his wife, he leaves three cousins. Arrangements are in the care of NATIONAL CREMATION SERVICE of Quincy.
