Martin Paul Freitag

Martin Paul Freitag, 72, of 596 Wells Road died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield shortly after being admitted. Born in Adams on Feb. 5, 1934, son of Paul and Katherine Drescher Freitag, he attended schools there. He served in the Army with the 101st Airborne Division's "Screaming Eagles" during the 1950s. Mr. Freitag was employed by General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for 21 years, retiring 15 years ago. He attended St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Adams and enjoyed motorcycling and NASCAR racing. He and his wife, the former Diane H. Heinz, were married Oct. 5, 1963. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Sue Burke of Windsor and Sheri Lancaster of Peru; two brothers, Robert Freitag of Cheshire and Joseph Freitag of the state of Georgia; a sister, Marlene Knapp of Adams, and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, James Martin Freitag. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Martin Paul Freitag, who died March 24, 2006, will be conducted Tuesday, March 28, at 11 at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home by the Rev. Bruce Duncan, pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Berkshire Humane Society through the funeral home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. He also leaves two sons-in-law, John and Steve; three grandchildren, Brecken and Aspen Burke, and Emily Lancaster, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He enjoyed walking his dogs.
