Evelyn Ciccarello

Evelyn Ciccarello, 81, of Avon, Conn., died at McLean Center of Simsbury, Conn., on Sunday evening. Her daughter, Kathleen Ciccarello, lives in Lanesborough. Born in Hartford, Conn., on July 16, 1924, daughter of Harold Fredrick and Audrey Cooper Walz, she attended schools in Hartford. She spent her later life at Laurel Gardens of Avon. Previously, she was a resident of Sunset Hills in East Hartford, Conn. Mrs. Ciccarello dedicated her career to mentoring young professional women at the Aetna Life Insurance Co. in Hartford, where she was an administrator and trainer. In Connecticut, she volunteered at the American Heart Association, Red Cross, and belonged to the East Hartford Country Club and Manchester Bowling Center, where she held many leadership positions. She was an equestrian and competitive swimmer, enjoyed reading, and wrote poetry throughout her life. Her husband, Ben D. Ciccarello, predeceased her. Besides her daughter, she leaves a son, Arthur Ciccarello of New Hartford, Conn., and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Evelyn Walz Ciccarello died Sunday, March 26, 2006. A celebration of her life will be held Friday at Laurel Gardens of Avon, Conn. Donations in her memory may be made to the library fund at Green Mountain Valley School, 271 Moulton Road, Waitsfield, VT 05673 or to the McLean Home in Simsbury, Conn. Mrs. Ciccarello was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Kim Bondeson Ciccarello, many nieces and nephews, and her four grandchildren, Marisa, Jordan, Paige, and Tate, for whom she followed their equestrian, hockey, and ski racing accomplishments. She was predeceased by her brother, Harold Walz and his wife, Agnes Walz. Evelyn was loved by, and loved all, and particularly treasured her angel Nora, who humorously and compassionately guided her through life's quandaries. She truly believed that one "makes new friends and keeps the old, one is silver and the other is gold," which was evidenced by the affection that surrounded her.
