Francis Leonard Dargie Sr.

Francis Leonard Dargie Sr., 79, of 215 East Main St. died Wednesday evening at the North Adams Commons. Born in Adams on Aug. 7, 1926, son of Henri Dargie and Eva Royal Dargie, he attended schools in Adams. A World War II Army veteran, he served with the 201st Signal Depot Company as a Technician Fifth Grade in the Philippines. He entered the Army on Dec. 26, 1944, and served until his honorable discharge on Feb. 7, 1946. He received the Philippine Liberation Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and Army of Occupation Medal. Mr. Dargie was employed at Sprague Electric Co. for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing on the Deerfield River. His former wife, Maria Barbuto Dargie, is deceased. He leaves two sons, Francis L. Dargie Jr. and Michael D. Dargie, both of North Adams; a brother, Robert Dargie of Cheshire, and a sister, Dorothy Messier of Hamden. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Francis L. Dargie Sr., who died Wednesday, March 29, 2006, are private. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements. He leaves a daughter-in-law, Svetlana, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Rita Dupee and brothers, George, Henry and Paul. A brother, Robert, and a sister, Doris, died in infancy.
