Geraldine Lillian McGowan

Geraldine Lillian McGowan, 91, of 193 North St. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on May 15, 1914, daughter of Henry E. and Ora Anderson Arnold, she attended Johnson and Freeman schools and was a 1931 graduate of Drury High School. She also graduated from the former Bliss Business College. Mrs. McGowan owned and operated Gerry's Beauty Salon for more than 40 years, retiring in 1987. Before that, she was employed by the former Richards Beauty Salon on Bank Street in North Adams and at Orchid Beauty Salon. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed ceramics and bowling. She and her husband, Edward Henry McGowan, were married in 1941. He died Nov. 21, 1988. She leaves a daughter, Marcia Ann Lescarbeau, with whom she resided; a son, Edward M. McGowan of Williamstown; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services to celebrate the life of Geraldine McGowan will be conducted Wednesday, April 12, at 11 at St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams by the Rev. Edward King, pastor. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St., North Adams, will be tomorrow from 4 to 7. Donations may be made to VNA & Hospice of North Berkshire or to the Sweet Brook Activities Fund, both in care of the funeral home. Survivors include a son-in-law, Harry Lescarbeau; a daughter-in-law, Sherill McGowan, and five grandchildren, Jodi C. Milazzo, Shawn M. McGowan and Christopher Morehouse, all of North Adams, Joy P. Lescarbeau of Boulder, Colo., and Scott E. McGowan of Williamstown; four great-grandchildren, Anthony E. and Robert M. Milazzo, and Marissa and Haley Morehouse, all of North Adams; her Special Caregiver, Jennifer Jayko of Williamstown, and nieces and nephews. Three brothers are deceased, Wadsworth A. and Everett A. Arnold, and Samuel Miller.
