Alice M. Rondeau

Alice M. Rondeau, 85, of 909 South Main St. died Sunday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Westfield on March 21, 1921, daughter of Arthur and Hazel Dewey House, she attended schools there and was a 1940 graduate of the former Searles High School. Mrs. Rondeau was a crossing guard and meter maid, retiring in 2005. Before that, she worked at Jones Antiques and at the former W.T. Grant Co. She was a member of Housatonic United Methodist Church and a member of James A. Modolo Post 8348 Women's Auxiliary. She was an active bowler and a board member and secretary of the Wildcat League at Cove Lanes. She enjoyed deep sea fishing and clamming. Her husband, William Rondeau, whom she married July 31, 1944, died Jan. 30, 1965. She leaves a daughter, Sheron Chenail of Sheffield; two sisters, Phyllis Rheaume of Lawrence and Charlotte Barker of Salt Lake City; two brothers, John House of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Robert House of Camden, Ark., and a grandson. Another daughter, Charlotte Rondeau Ostrander, died in 1978. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Alice M. Rondeau, who died Sunday, April 9, 2006, will be conducted Thursday, April 13 at 1 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. David Rogers, pastor of Housatonic United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Family will receive friends tomorrow, April 12, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy in Alice's memory may be made to Housatonic United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230-1815. Mrs. Rondeau also leaves a son-in-law, Jim; a grandson, Joshua Ostrander; two sisters-in-law, Joan and Connie; several nieces and nephews; her extended family, John Ostrander and Geraldine Chamberlain of Great Barrington and their sons Jeffrey, Justin and Jamie Ostrander and great-grandson Mikel Nourse. She was predeceased by three sisters, Eva Lavalette, Helen Carson and Lola Moro, and by two brothers, Arthur and Clarence House.
