Elizabeth Sabrina Dodge

Elizabeth Sabrina Dodge, 87, of Hartford, Conn., died Friday at Avery Heights, a skilled-care nursing facility in Hartford. She was the mother of Deborah Dodge of Great Barrington. Born in Hamden, Conn., on Feb. 9, 1919, daughter of Richard M. and Ruth Niles Thompson, she moved to Fall River as a child and was a 1936 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and a 1940 graduate of Connecticut College in New London. After college, she moved to New Haven and was employed by Yale University Press. She was a resident of Wethersfield, Conn., for 37 years and was active in First Church of Christ and a member of the Home Garden Club. She founded the Wethersfield Conservation Commission and served as its chairman for six years. She also was an assistant at Wethersfield Public Library and served as secretary of the Village Improvement Association. She was active in the American Field Service. Mrs. Dodge was a class secretary for Connecticut College for more than two decades. In 1983, she moved to East Falmouth. where she volunteered with New Alchemy Institute and at Woods Hole Museum. She and her husband, A. Douglas Dodge, were married in 1944. Besides her husband and daughter, she leaves two other daughters, Melissa Vaughan of Farmington, Conn., and Andrea Dodge of Cambridge; two grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Elizabeth Sabrina Dodge, who died April 14, 2006, will be conducted Saturday, April 29, at 1:30 at First Church of Christ, Marsh Street, Wethersfield, with a reception to follow at the church parlor. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut College Annual Fund, 270 Mohegan Ave., New London, CT 06320. JAMES T. PRATT FUNERAL SERVICE, Wethersfield, is in charge of arrangements. She also leaves two sons-in-law, Richard Vaughan and Dwight Bramble; a granddaughter, Amanda Lloyd of Washington, D.C.; a grandson, Jeff Lloyd and his wife, Suzanne, of Auburn Hills, Mich., and a great-grandson, Brendan Lloyd.
