Ethel McCormick

Ethel McCormick, 88, formerly of Pleasant View Drive, died Sunday at Laurel Lake Center in Lee. Born in Pittsfield on July 20, 1917, daughter of Henry and Bessie Call Smith, she was a 1935 graduate of the former Searles High School. Mrs. McCormick was employed as head librarian at Mason Library for 45 years, retiring in 1983. She was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic and a member of Wyantenuck Country Club, where she played golf for more than 50 years. She and her husband, Edward C. McCormick, were married Oct. 3, 1941, in St. Peter's Church. He died April 27, 2001. She leaves a son, Town Moderator and Deputy Fire Chief Edward G. McCormick of Great Barrington; a brother, William P. Smith of Great Barrington, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ethel S. McCormick, who died Sunday, April 23, 2006, will be Wednesday, April 26, at 9 from BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Corpus Christi Church celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Great Barrington. Family will receive friends today, April 25, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Ethel's memory may be made to the Mason Library Building Fund in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Ruth; a sister-in-law, Pollyann, and two grandchildren, Matthew S. and Kathleen M. McCormick.
