Christine A. Glavin

Christine A. Glavin, 80, of Shrewsbury and formerly of Great Barrington and Worcester, died Wednesday at the Shrewsbury Nursing Center. Born in Great Barrington on Sept. 15. 1925, daughter of Dr. Mortimer T. and Katherine A. McAuliffe Cavanaugh, she was a graduate of Searles High School in Great Barrington and Trinity College in Washington, D.C. Prior to her marriage, she taught English and history at Searles High School. She lived in Worcester for more than 50 years before moving to Shrewsbury in 2002. Her husband, Charles J. Glavin, predeceased her on Sept. 19, 1992. She was a member and past president of the Friday Afternoon Club, St. Agnes Guild, the Worcester Chapter of the Trinity College Alumnae Association and St. George's Church Women's Guild. She leaves three daughters, Julie A. Glavin and Margaret M. Glavin, both of Worcester, Patricia M. Glavin of Holden; two sons, Charles J. Glavin Jr. of Brunswick, Maine, and Michael T. Glavin of Sterling; a brother, Mortimer T. Cavanaugh of Great Barrington, and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral Mass for Christine A. Glavin, who died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, will be Saturday, May 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, Main St., Great Barrington. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Great Barrington. Contributions may be made in Christine's name to the Shrewsbury Public Library Outreach Program, 609 Main St., Shrewsbury, MA 01545. Throughout her life she was a reader, a passion that she was able to enjoy until her death. She leaves a daughter-in-law, Mary; five grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel and David Glavin of Sterling, and Hannah and Brendan Glavin of Brunswick, Maine, and several nieces and nephews.
