Bernard F. Lavigne

Bernard F. Lavigne, 64, longtime resident of 29 Alger St. and a resident of Naples, Fla., died Friday afternoon at Naples Community Hospital. Born in Adams on Aug. 15, 1941, son of the late Wilfred J. and Blanche LaBelle Lavigne, he attended the former Notre Dame School and was a graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams. He retired from the now Adams Specialty Minerals Co. in 1996. He established the former Berkshire Clam Shack Restaurant in Pittsfield in 1978, which he operated until he went to work for Pfizer Inc. in Adams. Earlier, he had been employed by the former Adams Supermarket in Pittsfield for several years, after which he worked for the former Arnold Print Works in Adams as a screen printer for 10 years, and then for General Electric Co. in Pittsfield in the transformer department for several years. He was a communicant of Notre Dame in Adams. Mr. Lavigne was a New England sports fan, especially of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox' championships, and the Boston Celtics with Larry Bird. He was also an avid golfer and a member of Glades Country Club in Naples and Forest Park Country Club in Adams. He and his wife, the former Sandra Beales, were married June 6, 1964. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Lisa Doyle of Groton and Brenda Burdick of Adams; two brothers, Robert Lavigne of North Adams and Gordon Guild of North Fort Myers, Fla., and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Bernard F. Lavigne, who died Friday, May 5, 2006, will take place Wednesday, May 10,at 9 a.m. from TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Community of Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Donations in his memory can be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation through the funeral home, 6 Summer St., Adams MA 01220. Bernie was a kind and loving man with an extraordinarily positive attitude about life. He was a devoted husband, loving father and a beloved Pepe. He will be sadly missed by all. He also leaves two sons-in-law, Jeffrey and Timothy; four grandchildren, Julia and Matthew Burdick, both of Adams, and Connor Doyle and Logan Doyle, both of Groton; several nieces and one nephew. Two stepbrothers, Lawrence Lavigne and Leo Lavigne, are deceased.
