Anthony John "Dog Catcher" Zoito Sr., 79, of 33 Forrest St. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted on April 25. Born in North Adams on June 23, 1926, son of the late Joseph Zoito Sr. and Anna Lampiasi Zoito, he attended schools in North Adams, including Drury High School. Mr. Zoito was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater of operations from April 11, 1944, until his honorable discharge with the rank of seaman, first class, on May 17, 1946. Mr. Zoito was last employed by the former Carol Cable Co. in Williamstown, retiring in 1988. Before that, he worked at the former Arnold Lumber Yard. He later worked for the City of North Adams Parks and Recreation Department. Mr. Zoito was also employed in construction and worked for the Gordon and Sutton Contractors of North Adams. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. He was a CB radio enthusiast and was known by his handle, "Dog Catcher." He also enjoyed sports and was a hunter and a fisherman. He and his wife, the former Rita Lorraine Raymond, were married Aug. 2, 1948, in Williamstown. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, North Adams Police officer Albert J. Zoito and Anthony J. Zoito Jr., both of North Adams, and Paul Allen Zoito of Vancouver, Wa.; a sister, Katherine Courtemanche, and a brother, former Williamstown Police Chief Joseph Zoito of Williamstown. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Anthony John "Dog Catcher" Zoito Sr., who died Sunday, May 7, 2006, are private. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Elder Services of Berkshire County in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements. He also leaves three daughters-in-law, Janine, Teresa and Paula, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Vincent and Andrew Zoito.
