Ruth Margaret Deep

Ruth Margaret Deep, 81, of 35-50 85th St., Jackson Heights, N.Y., died Sunday at City Hospital at Elmhurst in New York. She also owned and operated a guest house in Falmouth Heights during the summer. Born in North Adams on Jan. 23, 1925, daughter of Michael H. and Philomena Coury Deep, she graduated from Drury High School in 1942 and from Boston University, Sargent College of Physical Education, in 1946. She received a master's degree in health and physical education from Syracuse University in 1952. Miss Deep was employed by Union Springs (N.Y.) Central School as a physical-education teacher for three years. After moving to Yonkers, N.Y., she worked in the public school system there as a girls' physical-education teacher. She then joined the physical-education department at Lincoln High School in Yonkers, where she worked for seven years. She was last employed as a guidance counselor at Lincoln High School for eight years, retiring in 1978. She was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church in Jackson Heights and a member of the Catholic Alumni Club and the Yonkers Teachers' Association. She leaves a sister, Agnes Ann Deep of Falmouth. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside committal services and burial for Ruth M. Deep, who died Sunday, May 14, 2006, will be private at the family lot in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements. She leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Nellie and Eva Deep, and Alice Oze, and by a brother, Tony Deep.
