Julia Geldert

Julia Geldert, 84, of Fairview Commons died there Saturday. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 28, 1922, daughter of John and Elizabeth Gordon Fiedler, she attended schools there. She moved to Great Barrington 10 years ago. Mrs. Geldert was employed by Dime Savings Bank in Brooklyn as a mortgage consultant and was the first woman to work in its foreclosure department. She retired in 1985. She enjoyed crocheting and was known locally as the "Butterfly Lady" for her crocheted butterfly magnets. She and her husband, Kenneth Geldert, were married in March 1943. He died in April 1989. She leaves two sons, James Geldert of Massapequa, N.Y., and Walter Geldert of Otis; a brother, Jack Fiedler of Bradenton, Fla., and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Jackie Geldert. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mrs. Julia Geldert, who died Saturday, May 20, 2006, was devoted to her family and leaves her grandchildren John, Brian, Gayle, Jonathan, Catie and Kristin. Visiting hours will be tomorrow, May 23, from 1 to 5, with a funeral service at 4 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee.
