Elizabeth L. Slater

Elizabeth L. Slater, 77, of 189 Main Road died Sunday at Providence Care Center in Lenox. She was a former Tyringham town treasurer and a member of the Registry of Voters. Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 11, 1928, daughter of Arthur C. Blass Sr. and Elsa Funk Blass, she graduated from Lee High School in 1946. Mrs. Slater was a nurses' aide at the former Berkshire Hills North Nursing Home in Lee and at Berkshire Hills Nursing Home in Monterey. Before that, she was an aide for the late Dr. Fred Vohr of Lee. She was an active member of Tyringham Union Church and of the Valley Club. She was also a member of the Morning Star chapter of the Eastern Star in Lee and the Stockbridge Grange, and a former member of the Lee and Monterey granges. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and painting. Her husband, Charles E. Slater Sr., whom she married May 5, 1951, died Aug. 18, 2002. She leaves two sons, Charles E. Slater Jr. of Tyringham and Samuel W. Slater of Mason, Ohio; two daughters, Susan M. Choquette of Tyringham and Marjorie A. Loring of West Springfield; two brothers, Arthur C. Blass Jr. of Post Falls, Idaho, and Walter F. Blass of Gladwin, Mich.; a sister, Rosemary Buckliew of Shreveport, La.; 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Another son, Daniel D. Slater, died in 1977. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Elizabeth L. Slater, who died Sunday, May 21, 2006, will be Saturday, May 27, at 11 at Tyringham Union Church, with the Rev. Janet McKinstry, former pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Tyringham Cemetery. Visiting hours at KELLY FUNERAL HOME will be Friday from 5 to 8. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
