Nellie F. Styczynski

Nellie F. Styczynski, 79, of 890 South Main St., died Thursday after being struck by a motor vehicle while crossing South Main Street. Born in Pittsfield on June 26, 1926, daughter of Penteley and Frances Nykorchuck Semeniw, she attended local schools. She moved to Great Barrington 10 years ago. Mrs. Styczynski was employed by the Pittsfield School Department as a middle school teaching assistant for 20 years. She was a communicant of All Saints' Church in Housatonic and a member of its Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed country gospel music, tai chi, swimming, flower gardening, bird watching, arts and crafts, and playing bingo. She attended the Great Barrington Senior Center. Her husband, Joseph Styczynski, died Oct. 27, 1968. She leaves a daughter, Christine Koldys of Housatonic; a son, Joseph Styczynski of Dresden, Maine, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- In keeping with Nellie Styczynski's wishes, a memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be conducted Tuesday, May 30 at 10 at All Saints' Church by the Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in Nellie's memory may be made to Berkshire Humane Society in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, which is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy in Nellie's memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or the Audubon Society in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230-1815. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Lorna, and four grandchildren, Adam, Autumn, Jake and Katie. She was affectionately known by her pupils as Miss Nell, and enjoyed helping people. She also was known as Baba, Mom, Ma, Gram and Nastcha, but the name she valued most was Friend. Always greeting you with a hello, a smile and a twinkle in her eye, she was everybody's friend. She was Nellie.
