Douglas A. Lapham

Douglas A. Lapham, 85, of Merritt Road died on Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on Nov. 21, 1920 in Attleboro, son of Alanson and Althea Locke Lapham, he graduated from high school in Attleboro. He later went on to attend Boston University. Mr. Lapham was a World War II Army veteran. He lived in New York City for many years, and worked for various marketing and advertising firms in New York City until retiring in 1992. In 1980, Douglas began residing in Otis part time until five years ago when it became his permanent home. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Stockbridge, where he served as a church deacon and was active on various church committees, including the Growth and Fellowship Committee. Douglas served on the board of trustees at Chesterwood in Stockbridge, where he is now an emeritus trustee. He was also a member of the Stockbridge Golf Club. He leaves his companion of 26 years, Jeannene Booher; a son, Douglas A. Lapham Jr. of Asheville, N.C.; two daughters, Amy Franzen and Candida Smallen, both of Los Angeles, and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service celebrating the life of Douglas A. Lapham , who died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, will be held on Friday, June 9, 2006, at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Stockbridge, conducted by the Rev. Steven Bridges.
