Frank J. Koldys

Frank J. Koldys, 72, of Apple Street, the Furnace District, died Thursday at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born in Stockbridge on Feb. 3, 1934, son of Stanley and Mary Ann Smigel Koldys, he attended local schools, including the former Williams High School. From 1951 to 1955 he served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant, receiving an honorable discharge in 1955. He was employed as a quality control technician by the Mead Corporation in South Lee, retiring in the late 1980s after more than 25 years of service. He was a lifelong communicant of All Saint's Church in Housatonic. He was a sportsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and horse racing. He and his wife, the former Lisa Smith, were married June 16, 1956, at All Saint's Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Jaclyn A. Koldys of Stockbridge; a son, Francis J. Koldys of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Stanley Koldys of Housatonic, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Frank J. Koldys, who died Thursday, June 1, 2006, will be held on Monday, June 5, starting at 9 a.m. at BIRCHES ROY FUNERAL HOME, followed at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church with a Liturgy of Christian Burial with the Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor, officiating. Burial will be later at the convenience of the family. Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. at funeral home. In lieu of flowers, family requests the expressions of sympathy in Frank's memory be made to the Southern Berkshire Elderly Transportation Company in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Mr. Koldys and his wife were two weeks short of celebrating their 50th anniversary. He was a devoted husband, family man, and friend. He also leaves four grandchildren, Matthew Hamilton, and Christina, Nicholas, and Alexander Koldys. He was predeceased by a brother, William.
