Ellen May Gallagher

Ellen May Gallagher, 84, of 7 Grove St. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on Dec. 26, 1921, daughter of Raymond and Eunice Cassidy Roberts, she attended Pittsfield schools and was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She also graduated from Brooklyn (N.Y.) Hospital School of Nursing in 1944. A registered nurse, Mrs. Gallagher was employed by the former House of Mercy, St. Luke's and Pittsfield General hospitals, all in Pittsfield, and by the former W.B. Plunkett Memorial Hospital in Adams. She retired from North Adams Regional Hospital in 1985 with 27 years of service. She was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. She and her husband, John E. Gallagher, were married June 3, 1944. He died May 14, 1989. She leaves two daughters, Kathleen Brightwell of Salem, Va., and Eileen Sorel of Lanesborough; four sons, John "Terry" Gallagher of Beaufort, S.C., Brian E. Gallagher of North Adams, Shaun P. Gallagher of Lanesborough and Kevin F. Gallagher of Adams; 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Anoher daughter, Karen Lowry, is deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ellen May Gallagher will be Thursday, June 8, 2006, at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Parishes of Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas Aquinas through the funeral home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, MA 01220. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Roberts.
