Sophie H. Olsiewski, 78, formerly of Boardman Street, died yesterday at Great Barrington Healthcare Facility. Born in Hartford, Conn., on Aug. 26, 1917, daughter of Stanley and Anna Raskeimich Nawlicki, she graduated from Norwich (Conn.) Free Academy and from a business school, also in Norwich. She moved to Sheffield in 1993. Mrs. Olsiewski was employed by LaValley Furniture Co. in Danielson, Conn., until retiring in 1975, when she returned to Norwich. She enjoyed latchhooking and sewing. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church. Her husband, Philip Olsiewski, whom she married July 16, 1938, at St. Joseph's Church in Norwich, died May 11, 1982. She leaves a daughter, Mary Jane Mattieu of Sheffield, with whom she had resided; two grandchildren, and six great- grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of the Word for Sophie H. Olsiewski, 78, who died Monday, June 19, 2006, will be conducted tomorrow, June 21, at 10 at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington by the Rev. John Lis, pastor of Our Lady of the Valley Church. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9 until the time of the service. Burial will be later at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Norwich. She leaves two grandchildren, Mark and Arthur Mattieu, and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Victoria Skinduer.
