Casimer Jacob "Sonny" Wiater Jr.

Casimer Jacob "Sonny" Wiater Jr., 62, of 220 East Windsor Road died Sunday at home. He was a former longtime resident of Cheshire, where he lived with his late parents. Born in Adams on June 23, 1943, son of Casimer J. Wiater Sr. and Pauline T. Labanowski Wiater, he was educated in Adams and Cheshire schools. As a member of the Berkshire County ARC AEN team, Mr. Wiater worked as a janitor and custodian at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and at Sons of Italy Itam Lodge, both in Pittsfield. For many years, he also helped out at Lamb's Garage in Cheshire. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Cheshire. He enjoyed taking special-needs woodworking courses with his mother in North Adams, and playing golf, bowling, fishing and clamming on Cape Cod. He also liked cars and enjoyed traveling: He always wanted to be a truck driver. He leaves two brothers, Paul N. Wiater of Chicopee Falls and Stephen D. Wiater of Pittsfield; his sister, Janice W. Hurtle of Hooksett, N.H., and his caregiver, Elaine Wormwood, with whom he resided. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Casimer Jacob "Sonny" Wiater, who died Sunday, June 18, 2006, will be Thursday, June 22, at 9:15 from DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church celebrated by the Rev. David R. Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to BCARC in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 445, Cheshire. Mr. Wiater leaves two sisters-in-law, Katie Wiater and Susan Wiaters; his nieces and nephews, Douglas and Kimberly Hartwell, and Kelly and Erin Wiater, and his caregivers, Elaine Wormwood and her entire family, with whom he resided. He was predeceased by brother-in-law, Allan Hartwell, on Sept. 10, 2003, and by his caregiver, Kenneth Wormwood.
