Zabel A. Ultimo Gilbert

Zabel A. Ultimo Gilbert, 85, formerly of 13 Francis Plaza, died Friday at Springside of Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 14, 1920, daughter of Paul and Elmas Samuelian DiCranian, she was educated in local schools. Mrs. Gilbert was a homemaker. She was a former member of St. Stephen's Church and enjoyed playing bingo and cards. Her first husband, Augustus Ultimo, died March 25, 1945, of injuries received during World War II. They were married three years. She and her husband, Edward J. Gilbert, were married 17 years. He died Sept. 28, 1977. She leaves a son, Joseph R. Gilbert of Stephentown, N.Y.; six daughters Joyce M. Gilbert of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Carolyn A. Ultimo, Shirley A. Zaccari, Arlene L. Hoisington, Gloria E. Dawson and Barbara Bodnar, all of Pittsfield; 19 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Zabel A. Ultimo Gilbert, who died June 23, 2006, will be conducted Tuesday at 11 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. William D. Furey, pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Mrs. Gilbert was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family. She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.
