Alma B. King

Alma B. King, 91, of Lake Avenue died yesterday at Laurel Lake Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Lee. Born in Springfield on Dec. 27, 1914, daughter of Barsam and Almas Donabed Barsam, she graduated from Commerce High School. Mrs. King was employed by Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Co. for more than 25 years. Before that, she worked at the former This and That shop in Great Barrington. She was a member of St. Mary's Assyrian/Syrian Orthodox Church in Shrewsbury and an honorary member of the Thursday Morning Club. A golfer, she made two holes in one and was recognized by the Ladies Professional Golf Association. She was an artist, a musician and a seamstress, and made her own wedding gown out of fabric imported from the Middle East. She and her husband, William Henry King, were married Sept. 11, 1957, at St. Mary's Church in Longmeadow. He died March 31, 2002. She leaves several cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of the Word celebrating the life of Alma B. King, who died June 27, 2006, will be conducted Thursday, June 29, 2006, at 11 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:30 until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Laurel Lake Activities Fund through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
