Antonio "Tony" J. Cosentino

Antonio "Tony" J. Cosentino, 82, of 27 Christian Hill Road died Sunday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Lawrence on Feb. 23, 1924, son of Joseph and Clementina Caruso Cosentino, he graduated from the former Searles High School in 1942. He had briefly moved to Great Barrington as a child, he then moved to Italy for seven years before returning to Great Barrington in 1931. He worked as a meat manager for 34 years for the former A&P Supermarkets in Great Barrington and Lee. He then worked for Nejaime's and Price Chopper. From 1978 until his retirement in 1989, he worked for the Berkshire Corporation in the manufacturing department. A World War II Navy veteran, he served as a signalman in the Pacific Theater. He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church. He was a member of the Great Barrington Fish and Game Club and the James A. Modolo VFW Post 8348. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf, and was a Red Sox fan. His wife, the former Marion L. Spadaccini, whom he married on April 26, 1947, in Corpus Christi Church, died July 15, 1994. He leaves one daughter, Janice Cosentino of Great Barrington. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Antonio "Tony" J. Cosentino, who died Sunday, July 2, 2006, will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, with the Rev. Shaun O'Connor, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. He leaves several nieces and nephews. Expressions of sympathy in Tony's memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230-1815.
