Joseph Reilly

Joseph Reilly, 65, of 22 Baglee Ave. died Tuesday at home of an apparent heart attack. He was the owner of Matt Reilly's Restaurant. Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 22, 1941, son of the late Martin C. and Hazel Johnson Reilly, he graduated from the former St. Charles' Grammar School and was a 1958 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. He served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1962, including 15 months in Labrador, as a supply specialist and inventory clerk. Following his military service, Mr. Reilly worked at the family restaurant, purchasing it from his mother in 1979. He was a member of the Lanesborough Lions Club, where he was a past president, and of Charles Persip American Legion Post 68 in Pittsfield and the Berkshire Bass Club. He volunteered for the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund Inc., operating the food booths at its fundraising events for many years. He also served on the Lanesborough Finance Committee during the 1970s. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards. He and his wife, the former Helen S. Fisher, were married Feb. 2, 1980, at St. Charles' Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Sgt. Shawn M. Reilly, stationed in Iraq; three daughters, Lisa-Marie Janotka of Chesapeake, Va., and Nicole D. Reilly and Colleen E. Reilly, both of Pittsfield; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Harte of Troy, N.Y., and Rosemary McLaughlin of Pittsfield, and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joseph Reilly, 65, who died July 11, 2006, will be Monday at 10 from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 1 to 5 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Lanesborough Ambulance Squad, Lanesborough Lions Club, Dana Farber Cancer Research or the American Heart Association, all in care of the funeral home. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Caitlin R., Keighley R., Catrianna R., Kamron R. and Conal R. Janotka; two brothers-in-law, Richard Harte and John F. McLaughlin Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Reilly and JoAnne Mowry; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas Reilly in 1968 and Martin Reilly in 1982.
