Robert M. Southworth Jr., 29, of 24 Silver St. died Sunday after being hit by a train while traveling in Surf Beach, Lompuc, Calif. Born in Springfield on June 17, 1977, son of Barbara Ann Riel Southworth of Great Barrington and the late Robert M. Southworth Sr., he attended local schools and was a 1995 graduate of Monument Mountain Regional High School. He had been employed by Amsterdam Realty in maintenance. He had also worked in the Ski Shop at Butternut Basin, and had done masonry work in the area. Besides his mother, he leaves a sister, Angela Durham of Salina, Kan.; his paternal grandmother, Anna Adams of Westfield, and his maternal grandmother, Ella Riel of Phoenix. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Robert M. Southworth Jr., who died Sunday, July 16, 2006, will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in Robert's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which in charge of local arrangements. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
