Elaine Fortier

Elaine Fortier, 71, of 891 North State Road died Wednesday morning at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in North Adams on Nov. 14, 1934, daughter of John N. and Stella Starsiak Decker, she moved to Adams as a child and attended Adams schools, graduating from the former Adams High School in 1953. She was employed by Price Chopper Supermarket on State Road in North Adams for 15 years in the bakery department, retiring in 1996. Previously, she was employed for 15 years by the former Sprague Electric Co. in the Marshall Street office in North Adams as an executive secretary. Before that, she worked as a waitress and also in the kitchen for the North Adams Country Club. She was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame and St. Thomas in Adams. She leaves a son, Steven Fortier and his wife, Jacqueline, of Cheshire, with whom she made her home; two brothers, John Decker of Albany, N.Y., and Robert Decker of North Adams, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Elaine Fortier, who died Wednesday, July 19, 2006, will take place at 10 a.m. from TROTTER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, 01220, with the Rev. Robert R. Moulton, Deacon of the Catholic Community of Adams officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams, at a later date to be announced. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations in her memory can be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children through the funeral home. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Christine; two grandchildren, Christina Elaine Fortier and Marina Rose Fortier and Marina Rose Fortier, both of Cheshire; an uncle, Edward Starsiak of Adams, an aunt, Eileen Starsiak of Carteret, N.J., and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was a devoted grandmother.
