M. Zowd Joseph

M. Zowd Joseph, 84, of 252 Wells Ave. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital after a short illness. Born in Utica, N.Y., on Aug. 5, 1921, daughter of John and Ida Abraham Peters, she attended schools there. She moved to Adams as a teenager and graduated from Adams Memorial High School in 1939. She also graduated from Fitchburg State Teachers College. Mrs. Joseph taught classes in sewing and interior decorating at Drury High School and at Adams Memorial High School, later working out of her home until retiring in 1995. Also a licensed practical nurse, she previously was employed by various area nursing homes and by North Adams Regional Hospital. She was a communicant of St. Francis' Churchs. Her husband, Joseph William Joseph, whom she married Oct. 16, 1948, at St. Thomas' Church in Adams, died Aug. 18, 1985. She leaves a daughter, Deborah Griffin of Lantana, Fla.; a son, Mark L. Joseph of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a brother, Joseph Peters of Adams, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Zowd Joseph, who died Saturday, July 30, 2006, will be celebrated tomorrow, Aug. 1, 2006, at 11 at St. Francis' Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPEL, will be tomorrow from 9 to 10:30. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Adams Ambulance Service in care of the funeral home, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247. She leaves a daughter-in-law, Teresa Joseph; two grandchildren, Michael Boyd Griffin of San Diego and Katherine Ann Hollek of Boynton Beach, Fla., and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews She was predeceased by a sister, Marion Kennedy.
