Kenneth Vaughn Ellsworth

Kenneth Vaughn Ellsworth, 89, of Cromwell, Conn., formerly of Becket, died yesterday at the Masonic Home in Wallingford, Conn. Born in Island Falls, Maine, on March 26, 1917, son of Ernest and Phyllis James Ellsworth, he was educated in Maine schools and served in the National Guard and Civilian Corps. Mr. Ellsworth then enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve on July 16, 1942. He served in World War II in the Panama Canal Zone (Balboa) on patrol duty and was motor machinist's mate 1st Class upon his honorable discharge on Oct. 3, 1945. He met his wife, the former Ethel Mae Knox, in Bangor, Maine, where they married June 22, 1946. They moved to New Haven, Conn., in 1952. Mr. Ellsworth was employed as an electrician by Pratt & Whitney, Division of United Technologies, from Jan. 21, 1952, until his retirement on March 31, 1982. He and his wife then moved to Becket, where they built their home. In 1992, Mr. Ellsworth was recognized after 25 years as a 32nd degree Mason. He served as master Mason of Federal Lodge in Chester and master Mason of Huntington Lodge in Russell. He was a member of the York Rite Bodies of Masonry out of Westfield and Pittsfield. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Masonry in Becket. He was a member of the VFW Lodge 11054 and the Becket Council of Aging. After his wife of 56 years died in 2002, he moved to Connecticut to be closer to his children. He leaves two daughters, Judith E. Warner of New Britain, Conn. and Katherine E. Matthews of Cromwell, Conn.; a son, Gary K. Ellsworth of Coventry, R.I.; and a sister, Shirley Sweet of Quincy. He was predeceased by a daughter, Dianne Ellsworth. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A small memorial service and burial for Kenneth V. Ellsworth, who died Wednesday, August 2, 2006, will take place at the Lawndale Cemetery, Stillwater Avenue, Old Town, Maine, at the convenience of the family.
