Albert P. Foster

Albert P. Foster, 84, of 18 Old Queechy Road, Canaan, N.Y., formerly of West Stockbridge, died yesterdayat home. He moved to Canaan six years ago, after residing in West Stockbridge for more than 40 years. Born in North Adams on Aug. 26, 1921, son of Albert W. and Lucy Blood Foster, he was educated in schools in Stamford, Vt., where he was raised, and was a 1940 graduate of Vermont Technical College in Randolph, Vt. Mr. Foster was employed by General Electric Co. in the power transformer division from 1966 to 1987. Prior to that, he managed the Baldwin Farm on West Center Road. He owned and worked on dairy farms in the Stamford and Manchester, Vt., area for most of his life, and owned the Foster Dairy Farm in Stamford for many years. Mr. Foster was a member of the West Stockbridge Congregational Church, and a member of Wisdom Lodge A.F. & A.M. in West Stockbridge. He also enjoyed gardening, camping and helping his wife putter around the house. He and his wife, the former June Daniels, were married Sept. 1, 1945, at her family's home in Clarksburg. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Pamela Foster and Carrie Foster Bither, both of Canaan, N.Y.; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A son, Lansing Ray Foster, died in infancy. FUNERAL NOTICE -- There will be no calling hours for Albert P. Foster, who died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006. Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. James Osborne of the Bible Baptist Church, Ghent, N.Y., at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Millard Cemetery, Stamford, Vt. A reception for family and friends will take place at 3 p.m. at the home of Carrie Foster Bither, 18 Old Queechy Road, Canaan, N.Y. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to FRENCH, GIFFORD, PREITER & BLASL FUNERAL HOME, 25 Railroad Ave., Chatham, N.Y., 12037. Memorial Contributions may be made to the New England Chapter of the Huntington Disease Society of America in care of the funeral home. He was predeceased by two brothers, John E. and Clayton Foster, and a sister, Lois Foster Berard.
