Jean S. McCarthy

Jean S. McCarthy, 63, of West Center Road died Tuesday at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. She served on the Otis School Committee from 1983 to 1987. Born in Springfield on April 13, 1943, daughter of Sherman and Hazel Oakes Stewart, she was a 1960 graduate of Springfield Technical High School. Mrs. McCarthy did clerical work for the family real estate company, McCarthy Co., for 25 years. She and her husband, Donald P. McCarthy, were married Nov. 26, 1992, in Otis. Besides her husband, she leaves four sons, Richard Day of Princeton Junction, N.J., David Day of East Otis, Adam Day of Hollidaysburg, Pa., and Patrick Day of Montgomery, Ala.; a daughter, Diana Lombardi of Otis; two sisters, Sally Shumaker of Grass Valley, Calif., and Peggy Stewart of Martinez, Calif., and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Jean McCarthy died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006. Following a private service, a gathering in Celebration of Jean's Life will be hosted by Jean's children on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 2 at DreamAway Lodge in Becket, Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jean's name may be made to the Western Massachusetts Food Bank or the Elizabeth Freeman Center, both in care of FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She also leaves four grandchildren, Madeleine, Nicholas and Olivia Day, and Isabella Lombardi; her daughters-in-law, Ellen, Terry and Andrea, and her son-in-law, James.
