V. Doris Crow

V. Doris Crow, 86, of 259 State Road died Tuesday at home. Born in Browndell, Texas, on Sept. 27, 1919, daughter of James M. and Hazel Jones Arnold, she was a graduate of Pineland (Texas) High School and received an associate degree in business from Lufkin College in Texas. She moved to Great Barrington in 2005. She was a Women's Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving from May 26, 1944, to Dec. 3, 1945, as a corporal. She received several campaign medals. Mrs. Crow was employed by Houston Lightning and Power in Texas as a clerk typist, retiring in 1984 with 13 years of service. She was a member of Highland Baptist Chuch in Lamarque, Texas, and enjoyed playing the piano. She and her husband, John Crow, were married Dec. 28, 1956, in Houston. He died July 21, 1963. She leaves a son, Robert Arnold of Hallsville, Texas; a daughter, Alice Cherry of Great Barrington, with whom she resided; a sister, Annette Wright of Lufkin; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Doris Crow, who died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 26, at 11 at Calvary Christian Church on North Plain Road, Great Barrington by Phil Herrick. Another memorial service will be held Sept. 30 at 2 at Valley View Baptist Church in Longview, Texas. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in Doris' memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230-1815, which is in charge of local arrangements. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Ginger; a son-in-law, Robert, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much.
