Bertha M. Malally, 89, of Valatie, N.Y., formerly of Great Barrington and Hillsdale, N.Y., died Monday at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born in Great Barrington on Oct. 19, 1916, she was the daughter of John and Carrie Race Keefner. She moved to Valatie 17 years ago. Mrs. Malally was employed by the Roeliff-Jansen Central School District in Hillsdale in the cafeteria and worked previously for Taconic Telephone Co. as an operator. Her husband, John J. Malally, died in 1989. She leaves a daughter, Bertha Schnackenberg of Valatie; three sisters, Patricia Pixley of Valatie, Marion Eastman of Springfield, Vt., and Sylvia Eichstedt of Great Barrington; three brothers, Raymond Keefner and Richard Keefner, both of Great Barrington, and Robert Keefner of Austerlitz, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Bertha M. Malally, who died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, will be conducted Friday, Aug. 25, at 3 p.m. at PECK AND PECK FUNERAL HOME, Route 22, in Copake, N.Y., by the Rev. Juanita Middlebrook, pastor of Hillsdale United Methodist Church. Friends are invited and may call Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hillsdale Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valatie Volunteer Rescue Squad, Valatie, NY 12184. Mrs. Malally also leaves two grandsons, Scott Schnackenberg of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Glenn Schnackenberg of Kinderhook, N.Y., and great-grandchildren, Connor and Ashley Schnackenberg, both of Poughkeepsie. She was predeceased by two sisters, Bessie Whitbeck O'Connell and Flora Markham, and by four brothers, Harold, Joseph, Walter and Charles Keefner.
