Carter Brown Owen

Carter Brown Owen, 45, of 20 Miner St. died Friday at home of natural causes. Born in Cumberland, Md., on Aug. 8, 1961, son of Glenn Brown Owen Dobbs and the late Archibald A. Owen III, he moved to Pittsfield as a child and attended the former South Junior High School. As a teenager, he moved to Media, Pa., and graduated from Penncrest High School, where he was co-captain of the swim team. He also attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. Mr. Owen was employed by Aramark at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams for 10 years until ill health forced his retirement. In his younger years, he enjoyed skiing, sailing and fishing. Besides his mother, of Saugerties, N.Y., he leaves his stepfather, Donald Dobbs of Saugerties; two brothers, Archibald A. Owen IV of Stowe and Henry S. Owen of Medford, N.J.; a stepbrother, D.J. Dobbs of Naperville, Ill.; two stepsisters, Jennifer McLysaght of Wheaton, Ill., and Elizabeth Dobbs of Chicago, and his companion, Diane Marran, with whom he resided. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service to celebrate the life of Carter Owen, who died Sept. 1, 2006, will be conducted Wednesday Sept. 6, at 3 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, by the Rev. Robert Granger. Burial will be at a later date in Lewisburg, Pa. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lowe Center for Thoracic Oncology in care of Dr. Paul Marcoux, Attention: Julie Childress- Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney St., Suite D1234, Boston, MA 02115. He also leaves aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
