Rachel Elizabeth Wonkka, 89, of 4 Columbia St. died Sunday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Adams on Nov. 4, 1916, daughter of Walter G. and Margaret Rupprecht Frese, she was educated in Adams schools and attended the former Renfrew School. A homemaker for most of her life, she was at one time employed by the Domestic Department of Siena College in Siena, N.Y., retiring in 1974. She and her first husband, the late Russell H. Bennett, were married in February 1937. She was predeceased by her husband, Waino W. Wonkka. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A funeral service for Rachel Wonkka, who died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, will be offered Monday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME at 6 Liberty St., Adams. The service will be presented by the Rev. Ellen White, rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Adams. Interment will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. A visitation period for friends and relatives will be Saturday, from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. McBride Funeral Home of Adams is in charge of arrangements. She leaves a niece, Evelynn F. Shaw of Peru. She also leaves her niece's husband, Charles A. Shaw of Peru, and a sister-in-law, Alfreida Frese of North Adams. She was predeceased by three brothers, George, Clarence and Leonard Frese.
